2020 Kia Soul GT-Line Turbo Review from Westside Kia

When it comes to sports cars, most people think of the Porsche 911 or Lamborghini. Others represent the Ford Mustang, Mazda MX-5 Miata, or Subaru WRX. But how many consider 2020 Kia Soul a sports car competition contender? The subcompact crossover was probably one of the last cars to ever come to mind.

For more than a decade, Kia has offered Boxy Soul as a funky, groovy alternative to the compact hatchback. For the 2020 year, Kia has introduced the third-generation 2020 Kia Soul GT-Line Turbo, equipped with even more character and high-tech extras. Kia offers six trim levels for 2020, and they chose the top GT line turbo as it is the only model with a turbo engine.

Engine and Performance

Only the1.6-liter turbocharged engine is available for the 2020 Kia Soul GT-Line Turbo. It produces a satisfying 201 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. Of torque @ 1,500 to 4,500 rpm (the base 2.0L has 147 hp and 132 lb.-ft.). For a vehicle that weighs over 3,000 pounds, that’s pretty good for power to weight and helps with the fuel economy. On regular fuel, the EPA estimated 27 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined is impressive. This turbo model only gets a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

This is great fun when you press hard with speed. The paddle shifter responds quickly to the input and is quite aggressive in sports mode. Unusually, the 2020 Kia Soul GT Line Turbo has a twisted beam rear suspension, and cars of this caliber usually prefer a separate rear suspension.

Interior

The quiet, funky 2020 Soul design rests atop the cabin, where the GT-Line Turbo gets a red-colored interior, which adds textured red accent to the door panel trim and red stitching on the seats. It has comfortable seats with sports upholstery in Sofino Leatherite. The driver seat comes with 10-way adjustable front seats and a heated steering wheel.

In the GT-Line Turbo, drivers and passengers sit in the spirit for a better view of the road, compared to a typical passenger car. Another advantage of its design is the spacious back seat. Comfort and convenience add to the transportation of 60/40 split style passenger and cargo combinations. Although the rear seats are folded down, there are 62.1 cubic feet of cargo space, giving the team plenty of room to transport. You can also add additional cargo mats and trays from the nearest Kia dealership.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The 10.25-inch center screen with UVO Link, navigation, and the split-screen view is a joy to use. You can listen to our favorite tunes on SiriusXM satellite radio, checked out the weather, including a five-day forecast, and use the voice command button on the steering wheel to “find anything.”

You can enjoy the sound quality Harman Kardon audio system, charge Phones using the onboard wireless charger, and plug-in the phone to use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features.

Safety Features

A Supervision meter cluster with LCD color display comes standard with the GT-Line Turbo. By pressing a button on the steering wheel, you could toggle through and adjust various features, including Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Assistance Warning, a trip computer, a compass, and the separate Head-Up Display.

The list of safety features includes Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian Detection, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Smart Cruise Control.
